I originally started this page with my sister in The Biggest Loser's Million Pound Match-Up. We both lost some weight and started on a road to healthy living. Then the contest ended and my sister quit. I hung on for awhile, but then the summer came and soon I had dropped out of my healthy living lifestyle :(. So, I am now back as I stepped on the scale and realized I am the heaviest I have EVER been (including when I was 7 months pregnant...ouch!). I am trying to lose weight so I can have a healthy and successful pregnancy in the future. I want to be fit and full of energy for my children, my husband, and myself! I am hopeful for a new start!

A Loss :)!

So, I am happy to report a loss of 2.8 lbs this week!  I know, its the first week, and it is typical to lose a decent amount of weight the first week...it dwindles from there :).  However, it is MOTIVATING and exciting.  I know I can do this!  One of the skills that I have learned from the book that I am reading (see previous blog) is how to motivate myself, how to keep myself from driving through the fast-food lane, how to keep myself from emotional eating.  Dr. Peeke calls it "Finding Your Motivational Bull's Eye."  Basically, she asks you to list the reasons why you want to lose weight (no big plan here...everyone does this, right?) and these are your Global Motivations such as "I want to be more attractive," "I want to be healthier," "I want to have a more positive outlook on life," etc.  These motivations keep you going in the morning, you know, when you first wake up and you are, generally, feeling motivated anyway because it is a new day and the sun is shining :).  Then as the day wears on you need some extra motivation, the kind of motivation that WILL keep you out of the drive-thru lane of McDonald's  or away from the Snickers bar at the check-out lane at the grocery store.  These motivations are called your Target Motivations and she also asks you to create a mantra to go with them that you either can repeat over and over in your head or repeat out-loud.

You should probably read the book to get details, but the Target Motivation is something personal, a deep-down motivation, something that clicks in your soul.  For me, my #1 Target Motivation is being healthy and fit enough to have a natural, vaginal birth with my second child.  No, I'm not pregnant...just planning for the future :)!!  You then create a Run-From/Run-To Mantra that helps to keep this Target Motivation as powerful as it was the first time you wrote it down, it is what really helps to steer you clear of the things that can make you stumble and fumble on this course towards weight loss.  So, my mantra is "Run to a healthy, natural vaginal birth, Run from a painful, emotional-scarring c-section."

Let me tell you this has REALLY been helping me!  With my first pregnancy, I had planned a beautiful, natural, vaginal water birth at home, but, unfortunately, my son got stuck on the way out and I ended up going to the hospital and getting a c-section (this is the Reader's Digest version :)).  Of course, the outcome of the birth is what I always wanted:  a beautiful, healthy, happy baby!  However, the birth itself was very hard on me and I never want to have a c-section again!  I know that I could have been healthier and had a more reasonable weight when I got pregnant.  Because I wasn't healthy and I was overweight may have contributed to my having a c-section.  Of course, my mid-wife and my ob/gyn both tell me that it was a lot of factors that contributed to the c-section, but I know that my health and my weight is something that I CAN change
I WILL CHANGE!

So, each day when I am faced with a temptation or an obstacle that I need extra help with I say to myself, "Run to a healthy, natural vaginal birth, Run from a painful, emotional-scarring c-section."  I picture the day of my c-section, and I know that I don't ever want that again!  Let me tell you....it really keeps me going!

Well, I am off!  LOTS of work to do today.  Hope all is well with everyone!  Happy Monday!

Walking

Well, I just got back from an hour and 10  minute walk with my hubby, Sean, and little guy, Jack!  It felt great, but it was hard.  We live in the mountains so the dirt roads are very hilly, but are great for a workout.  Now, I am off to start dinner, but I feel so good about walking, about moving, about this new beginning that I had to write about it!  Tonight I am going to add a food journal section to this page because I think it will really help me.  Today as been an ok eating day, better than any day this past week, but not the greatest either...hey, I'm improving ;)!!  So, I'm off to make dinner!

Happy Sunday!

Recycling??

So, last week I was at our local recycling center sorting out my Rubbermaids of Rubbish :) when I noticed that someone had put hardbound books in the newspaper bin!  I asked the guy who monitors the center if he could possibly dig those out (sine they don't belong in there anyway :)) and if I could have some of them....I could already see a few titles that I wanted!  He said yes, grabbed a rake and dug in...he pulled out about 50 books (don't even get me started on a rant about proper recycling, but who, I mean, WHO puts hardbound books in a newspaper recycling bin???) and I immediately started sifting through to see what I wanted.  Now, you should know that books are my weakness!  I LOVE books of all kinds and I have thousands of them at home.  So, to get free books in excellent condition was just too good to be true :).  I ended up taking away 7 books whose titles interested me.  Once I got home I really flipped through the pages to see what treasures I had!  They were all fabulous, but it turns out that the real gem of the bunch is:  Body for Life for Women A Woman's Plan for Physical and Mental Transformation by Pamela Peeke!

Now, I have never heard of this book, never heard of this "fitness plan," but it looked interesting so I started reading it that night before bed.  I have been reading a few pages now every night before bed and I LOVE this book!  It has really helped to motivate me!  I have resurrected this site and I made myself step back on the scale after 3 1/2 long months.  I was horrified to see the number:  185.4 lbs!  I have NEVER been so heavy in all my life!  So, I went back to the book, kept reading, and then started making a plan for success:
1.  Finish reading Body for Life for Women.
2.  Implement the plan described in the book.
3.  Update DAILY on my blog.
4.  Weigh-in weekly.
5.  Take measurements monthly.

So, now I have a plan and I have a small flame of motivation inside of me (notice it is not a fire quite yet :)).  I find it crazy, ironic, and humorous that I found a fitness book in the recycling bin, that I took it home, and now here I am recycling this site for a new chapter, recycling my body for a better me, and recycling my attitude for one that is open-minded, grounded, positive, and motivated.  So, here's to recycling, to reading, to motivation, and to weight loss!

I'm Back :)!

So, here it is the day before my weigh-in and I am just now blogging about last week's weigh-in.  I have been SO BUSY, it has been unreal.  The company I work for is opening a new store in Longmont, CO, and I am busier than all get-out trying to train new employees and get everything set to go along with our Stand Developer.  Plus, trying to be a good mama and wife, I have been running non-stop.

But, on to the good news:  I am losing weight through it all :)!!  Last Thursday I lost 1.2 pounds and I am hoping for about a 2 pound loss tomorrow.  I am feeling good, despite being so busy.  I have been to the gym a lot in the last two weeks and I have been walking almost everyday with Jack.  My eating habits have been GREAT for as busy as I have been.  The food log is helping lots, although I am not as diligent about it as I should be.  Overall, I am feeling good and staying positive :)...I hope you all are too!

The bummer news:  I had to go clothes shopping this past weekend to get something to wear to Jack's baptism at the end of the month and I HATE clothes shopping.  It is one of those chores that I honestly just hate, but I had to do it.  It was (as always) depressing.  Standing in front of those awful mirrors trying on dress after dress that doesn't fit right, doesn't feel right, doesn't look right is enough to make anyone go crazy.  I finally settled on a skirt and shirt combo, but after an hour and a half of "NOs" I was all done and feeling pretty crappy.  Despite the weight I have lost I don't feel any thinner, I don't look any thinner, and I am still wearing the same size as I was at Christmas time....it was a bummer of a day and I am glad it is over.  I have gotten over it in the past few days, but I am so motivated to get out of a size 12 and back into a size 8...that would be amazing!  So, I am off to work out...I hope you all have been and continue to have great losses on the scale, good workouts in the warm weather, and delicious, nutritious food on your plates ;)!  CHEERS!

A Teeny Loss

So this will be quick because I am supposed to be working from home today and Jack is at the babysitter's so I can actually get something done, but I just couldn't resist getting online and updating.....not because I did great this week just because I think I am addicted to all of this :).  I had a VERY SMALL loss this week, 0.2 lbs, but at least it was a loss!  I can tell you right now why my loss wasn't bigger...I went to my babysitter's daughter's birthday party last night and ate a slice of cake and a scoop of ice cream!  So bad, but I did it.  So, today I will be working hard to work it off at the gym later this afternoon.

This morning has been great in the eating department:  2 slices of raisin bread toast with 1/2 tsp of butter on each, 1 cup of Kashi Autumn Harvest cereal with 1/2 cup of non-fat, organic milk, 8oz of oj.  Right now I am drinking water as I work on scheduling for my job.  I am looking forward to a good week!  I feel a fire in me :).  Maybe it is that Spring has FINALLY sprung around here!  I was out walking yesterday with Jack and we saw spring flowers popping up under the pine trees!  I was so excited!

I hope you all are well and working hard!  Cheers to everyone who is still going strong!  Best of luck!!

we would LOVE to have you and hope you do get to come! I'll cross my fingers for you :) Personally, I too am on a budget, and so I have to be careful, but I don't have a family to consider like you do :) so, I completely understand! BUT we are considering future events as well, so if you can't make this one, maybe you can make another one.

take care,

Still here!! Glad to see you're still around too! I have "started over" as reality hit again and I realized how far I could be if I had really used the last three months. Mini accomplishment for me - I started again that day, a Wednesday. The accomplishment was...I didn't wait for Monday!
Have a great week girls! We'll check back in soon!
